Tomorrow Begins Today. Actions now will positively impact our senior citizens for generations to come. The need for essential services provided by the Manistee County Council on Aging (MCCOA) continues to grow, however, the ability to deliver these services is impeded by the limited space of the current, 4,000 square-foot facility. The MCCOA operations are supported by an annual millage levied at 0.3000 mills.
None of the millage revenue will be directed towards the capital campaign.
The MCCOA is a 501(c)3 organization and donations are tax deductible.

The Manistee Senior Center, operated by the Manistee County Council of Aging, plays a vital role in enriching the lives of local senior citizens. Manistee County is home to a relatively large senior citizen population. In fact, 25.1% of the county population is 65 years old or older. The median age of Manistee County is 48.5 compared to the Michigan median age of 39.7 and national median age of 37.9. Many seniors are increasingly dependent on the services provided by the MCCOA.
Our current senior center is at capacity. We are continuing to meet with individual donors and have applied for several grants from private foundations. We have also engaged a with USDA Rural Development to identify potential sources of funding. The immediate focus of the campaign is to complete Phase 1, and allow us to relocate from the present Manistee Senior Center on River Street. Phase 1 includes converting the former parish center into a temporary gathering and dining facility. The most critical component of Phase 1 is a new roof - the roof needs to be replaced as soon as possible to prevent damage from the elements, and help us make the big move.
Through a partnership with Meals on Wheels, over 52,000 meals are prepared annually at our site serving both homebound individuals and congregate meal sites. The in-house food bank reaches another 2,040 people annually who rely on these resources to make ends meet. Hunger persists as a leading issue for an increasing number of local senior citizens. The need for services will continue to grow, however, the ability to provide these services is hindered by the limited space of the current facility.
Tomorrow Begins Today! Please consider supporting this historic project. Your planned giving to The Wagoner Center will positively impact our senior citizens for generations to come and help ensure the mission of the MCCOA will continue now, and in the future.
Thank you for your consideration.
Tax Free IRA Rollover
Did you know?
“The IRA charitable rollover allows taxpayers age 70½ or older to make tax-free charitable gifts of up to $100,000 per year directly from their Individual Retirement Accounts to eligible charities, including colleges, universities and independent schools.”
Giving an IRA charitable rollover does not produce a charitable contribution deduction, but instead would fulfill some or all of your required minimum distribution. It will not increase your taxable income – making it the perfect charitable gift for those who can’t claim itemized deductions.
Other Ways to Give
There are many ways to give your gift.
We accept stock transfer, in-kind donations, property collateral and checks.
Please make checks payable to the Manistee County Council on Aging, with "Capital Campaign" as the memo.
We also accept giving of time - we can always use volunteers!
