Patio Project

The 2018-2019 Chamber Leadership Team seeks to build an outdoor space for our senior citizens to enjoy at the Wagoner Center. With this space, we hope to create a place for safe outdoor activities, recreation and gathering while highlighting the natural beauty of our area.

Our Mission
- Manistee Area 2018 - 2019 Leadership Team

Leadership Program

The Manistee County Leadership Program is a comprehensive program provided by the Manistee
Area Chamber of Commerce as a forum for current and potential community leaders. The program
has goals of identifying and motivating these identified leaders, acquainting participants with
community needs and problems, while also identifying ways to effect change. This provides participants
with an opportunity to meet other present leaders and learn about their business practices; creating an
ongoing forum for participants to gather and exchange ideas. As part of the curriculum, the Manistee Area
Leadership Class is tasked with completing one community service project.

2018 - 2019 Leadership Class
The 2018-2019 Leadership class was presented with several community projects by local groups and organizations. Sarah Howard, the Executive Director at the Manistee County Council on Aging, and Cheryl Hogan, one of the 2018-2019 Leadership Class members, presented an outdoor space, called the Patio Project, at the new Wagoner Center. The Leadership Class unanimously chose the Manistee County Council on Aging’s project. The team felt the project would be a great way to bring something special and honor the senior population in Manistee County. It’s also a wonderful way to give back to our Manistee County seniors who have supported our community for years. The current Manistee County Council on Aging building has served local seniors well for over 45 years; it has one large dining room and gathering space, but it’s very limited. There is currently no outdoor space. At the new Wagoner Center, the seniors will have more than adequate indoor space for current and future needs. And with over 13 acres of beautiful property, the outdoor possibilities are endless. The plan for the new Wagoner Center is to serve the senior population as a devoted Senior Center by day, and a community center to benefit all residents at night and on the weekends. The Leadership Class is excited to bring such a wonderful project to life and create something that will be enjoyed by all Manistee County residents.
